We love Warren Ellis. Seriously. Have you read Crooked Little Vein? It’s kink-heavy detective story involving heroin addicted Presidential goons. Or The Authority, a brooding and intensely violent comic book featuring two very openly very gay superheroes or Transmetropolitan the post-punk tribute homage to Hunter S Thompson? You should.

Well, his dystopian writings have long enthralled us and he has a new scheme to make millions using twitter, his blog, and Cafepress:

I has a scheme. Or, more properly, Ariana and I has a scheme. On Twitter, I’ve been joking about turning some of my stupider comments into t-shirts. Each one lives for a week, and then it’s replaced by the next week’s shirt. Until I either run out of dumb ideas or Ariana’s brain explodes.

The site says it best: “Inspired by south-of-the-border photo novella magazines, the series follows New York’s recession-proof elite as they ruthlessly pursue power, fame and erotic thrills in a world of zillion-dollar penthouses and 50th-floor boardrooms.” Tune in three times a week as Lucinda, Pixie, Antonio, Gertrude and Avon de Luna hop between the ritzy Penthouse Club and each other’s sheets in this steamy and strikingly original gender-bending story.

As the leaves turn brown and mercury begins its annual descent, NYCers begin to look indoors for fun.

For a more authentic NY experience, check out Melody Lanes (no website!) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. With 30 lanes, a proper dive bar, a greasy-spoon snack shop serving awful pizza (and did we mention no website!), Melody is the real deal.

[ED's Note: You can google Melody Lanes for phone and it looks like there is a website, but it's just awful.]

Which of course brings in all types — last time I was there I was rolling next to Lady Gaga! (And not surprisingly, she fucking sucks at bowling!) See the rest of the roundup:

Rising like a phoenix from the dusty rubble of an old iron works factory in Williamsburg comes Brooklyn Bowl, a sprawling bowling palace/club/bar/restaurant/music venue all under one roof.

Massive is the first word that comes to mind at BB, a 23,000 square foot complex with 16 lanes of bowling pleasure (each with leather Chesterfield sofas and ottomans) plus a Blue Ribbon restaurant and a rockin’ live stage that’s hosted everything from a Polvo reunion show to a Gov’t Mule album listening party.

Also in Williamsburg is The Gutter, a more intimate bowling facility that painstakingly recreates the vintage feel of the kind of retro rolling that you’d expect to find if you took a time machine back to 1978 and headed to the suburbs of, say, Omaha, Nebraska. Can you say fucking throwback fabulous!?

Bowling is a little harder to find in Manhattan, but it’s certainly out there. The rich and famous tend to flock to the posh Bowlmor Lanes in the Village or, ahem, the striking 300 Club at Chelsea Piers. I prefer slumming it at
Leisure Time — located right in the middle of the sleazy Port Authority Bus Terminal in Times Square — or heading up to Harlem Lanes for a one-of-a-kind bowling experience. Strike!

BONUS HOT points: two of the guys are step-brothers, the fifth, who filmed it, is one of their cousins!

I sure hope the footage goes viral!

Surveillance Culture got you down? Feel like ‘they’ know too much about you? Companies? Governments? Identity Thieves? Go off the grid, baby!

Author John Twelve Hawks has taken his paranoia to the next level. He’s never met his editor and he communicates using the Internet and an untraceable satellite phone, usually employing a voice scrambler.

But what’s an author to do when it comes time for the inevitable signing and satellite media tours?

Ala “Spartacus” J12H (to his fans) has hand-selected a cadre of volunteers to be him in events celebrating the conclusion of his Traveler trilogy.

Here in New York, readings will include performances by indy gay and alt-culture icon, Gio Black Peter and the Black Peter Group and by Old School Glam rocker Brett Smiley.

The novel’s characters include parkour runners, hippies, nuns, mercenaries, sexy ninjas, interdimensional astral projectors, and very very vicious hyena-wolverine hybrids. It’s like Edward Abbey on LSD.

Here’s a link to the event or check out the flyer (right).
