The announcement that President Obama will be the keynote speaker at Saturday’s 13th annual Human Rights Campaign (the nation’s largest gay-rights group) National Dinner has of course drawn criticism from every God-fearing, fag-hating crazy Christian organization in America (including, of course, Fred Phelps and his hate-fueled Westboro Baptist Church, who insist “Obama Hates You Dumb Fags!”) But it’s also drawing the ire of prominent gay Atlantic columnist Andrew Sullivan, who questions Obama’s accomplishments on the gay agenda and calls out the HRC for doing “nothing substantive for gay equality on a federal level in twenty years . . . their prime job is to explain to the gay community why it is never in the Democratic party’s interest to do anything for gay people that might actually resemble equality.” Sullivan goes on to tell Obama: “spare us the schmoozing and the sweet-talking and . . . have a nice steaming cup of shut-the-fuck-up?” Ouch!

The following day will be the National Equality March on Washington “to demand equal protection in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states. Now.”
